Rain, rain go away

Late-January, and heavy rain is expected up here. Hopefully it will stay cold enough for some of it to be snow up in the Mt. Washington Valley, if not, this could set the conditions back a bit.
The good news is that it's supposed to be really cold the rest of the week after Monday, with a possible snow storm rolling in on the weekend.

Who will be 'Da Bomb?

With Comtois and the Murphys not attending Big Air this year, the title for the annual Irish Car Bomb races will be up for grabs on Friday, Feb. 5 at the Shannon Door.
There is no clear-cut favorite this year, making it one of the most anticipated races in Big Air history. Odds makers in Las Vegas are having a hard time coming up with a line, and despite the rumors that I was practicing all day with my trainer Komiko on Sunday (which aren't true), I'm not a chugger. I am more of a marathon man who regularly crashes at the finish line, or sometimes even before it.
There will be a new champion crowned, but it's not likely it will stay in the hands of an Irishman this year.
The early favorites have to be the French-Canadian contingent from Manchester, Craig and Carl St. Pierre. Unless he eats too much stromboli before heading to the pub, I'd give the edge to Craig, however I think Carl has the potential too.
My dark horse is Last Run Larry. He may not be one for endurance, but he is quick, as we saw a few years ago.
On the women's side, we have to rule out Michelle and Emily immediately. Michelle because she is pregnant and Emily because she will probably still be nursing her shot after Uncle Marty sings God Bless America and we get our bill.
The wildcards are the newbies, whom I haven't met yet, and the possibility of Comtois coming up for the night on Friday. If that happens, then UNH will definitely get its revenge against Villanova.
The date is set. Feb. 5 at the Door. I hear this is the second most anticipated event in the nation of that weekend, just after the Super Bowl and ahead of the Professional Bull Riders rodeo from Galveston, Texas.
May the best man, or woman, win.

Let it snow

About six inches of the white stuff has fallen down here in Southern New Hampshire. Word is, the White Mountains will be getting about eight inches of snow from this storm.
It looks like it's going to remain cold the rest of the month, and there might be another storm in about a week. It seems the Big Air gods are smiling on this trip and giving us a good base to work with.
All this good snow leads to two questions:
Will it make White Heat easier for me to ski, and will they have to stick a cone in front of Larry to get him to stop skiing?

Big Air 2010 in less than three weeks

That's right. Big Air St. Pierre 2010 is now less than three weeks away.
Since I work in a dying industry and have increasingly more time on my hands now, I decided to start up this blog to help me keep two things; one, my writing skills sharp, and two, my sanity.
Anyways, despite the thaw today, there still is plenty of snow up here in New Hampshire. There should be great skiing conditions for the trip from Feb. 3-7, just in case anybody may have forgotten.
Em and I are looking forward to seeing all of you guys again and hope everybody has a safe trip up. At least we won't have to worry about rushing home since neither the Pats nor the Eagles will be in the Super Bowl.
